Grief

Grief is one of those emotions many of us have felt.

We are all human, we all can suffer loss.  There are two types of grief, the grief of losing a person to death, and then there is the other type of grief. Grief over something that has been lost, for example, the loss of your job, status, relationship, opportunity, living through a situation that robs you of a normal life like abuse, accidents, losing limbs, being in foster care and many more situations.

When someone dies, there is an obvious event that causes sadness and someone passes. There are ceremonies performed to acknowledge the grief, it is very open grief.

Then there is other grief, this isn't always noticed by others, you might not get a promotion you have worked at for years, you might have lost a relationship, had a break up with a friend, fallen ill and missed out on things you wanted to do, might be forced to live somewhere you don't want too, lost a limb due to illness or accident. Some of these things can happen to us but others don't always recognise the impact that that incident has on you and the grief that you might feel, the feeling of being ripped off about a situation.

Grief is grief and it needs to run its course, but first needs to be recognised especially the second type of grief. There are stages of grief and each person experiences those stages differently.

Make sure you have someone around you that will listen to you, have a support team and know that in time you will move past the initial shock around grief. Be kind to yourself. Ask for help if you need it. Sometimes people aren't aware of how something might be affecting you.

On the other side, maybe someone you know might be suffering quietly of grief. Maybe they might just need you to check in with them and see if they are alright and if you can help in any way.

Random Kindness

Often we are so busy in our worlds, that we don't have much time to look around and notice what is going on for someone else.

We can sit in our model of the world and believe that everyone shares the same model. Unfortunately, there are people who live in a very uncomfortable world, they may have grief, fear, poverty, addictions, health issues, just to name a few.

Sometimes it is nice to come out of our world and start noticing what is going on around us. It won't take you long to realise that there is someone around you with a lot less and may be suffering.

Imagine offering a small amount of kindness to that person.

To be significant doesn't mean it needs to be big.

It could be helping someone carry their shopping to their car, a genuine smile, shouting someone a coffee.

Imagine then that you have done some small act for someone, just something to brighten their day.

Imagine their response, their joy that someone has noticed them struggling, imagine them being grateful.

And imagine how that would make you feel?

Fun, Fun, Fun

So what do you do for fun?

Maybe you don't have time for anything fun, maybe you are caught up "doing life".

Maybe it is time to factor in some fun time.

Doing something fun lets us enjoy life in the moment, it allows us to laugh, to be silly, to get off the rollercoaster of life and let up for a bit.

We all have issues and things we need to deal with, they might be past issues, they might be present issues and they might be a mix of both, but it can become really tiring to constantly keep on plodding. To be able to factor in something you think is fun allows you to relax, unwind and maybe for a little while not take yourself and life so seriously.  There are many things to be serious about, but we also need to give ourselves a break at times and just laugh and enjoy the moment.

What fun thing could you be doing today?

Life is too short to be serious all the time :-)

Dream it

What are your dreams for your life?

Do your dreams seem achievable or do they seem to big?

Are you someone who can pat yourself on the back or are you your worse critic?

What does your belief system think about your dreams?  Will it compromise you or support you?

These are some really important questions to ponder when setting goals.

What is it you want to achieve?  Have a look around, has anyone else achieved it? If so, find out more information about how they achieved it?  If no one else around seems to be doing what you want to do, you might be the first, you might be the leader, the pioneer. Don't be afraid !!

Your dream might seem impossible, but in small steps, it might seem achievable.

Look around, watch others that succeed, do they have certain strategies, ask them, they might be happy to share their wisdom.

Build yourself a support team, have like-minded people around you that will empower you.

Above all, step up, take some action

Happy New Year

Happy New Year to you all.

Yet another year has passed, I hope it was good to you.

What exciting things could lay ahead this year?

Have you thought about it?

What would you love to be doing?  What is your passion?

What could be some things that need tidying up?  Are there any matters that you could sort out that you can leave behind you, so you are fresh for the year. Things to do? People to ring?

Imagine you can start the year with no baggage.

Imagine you had no restrictions...

Imagine the world was your oyster...

What would you be doing?

Winter Goals

Well, the colder weather is here. I am one of those people who love the sun and the beach. I never used to look forward to winter.

Until I reframed winter in my mind.

Winter can be a powerful time to refuel and think about what you would like to be doing when summer rolls around again.

What could you put in action right now that could lead to a summer goal being achieved?
I tend to look at winter as sowing the seeds. So, in the winter I usually take the time to do some study.
What is it you could be doing during winter?  maybe you could be working towards something you have always wanted to achieve?

If you are setting up a new goal, think about exactly what it is you want to achieve.
Once you have figured that out, ask yourself what is the reality right now with that goal? Can it be achieved now? Is it part way achieved?
Once you know where you are the going with this goal, do a brainstorm.  Try not to think or analyse your ideas too much. Just let the ideas roll and write them down.  Once you have completed your brainstorm, look at all your ideas and choose one option that will move you closer to achieving that goal.

With that one think now a priority, what will you need to make it happen?  Do you need to do some research?  What resources already in our community can you use? Who would your support group be?  Is there someone you know who has already achieved this goal?  If so, ask them for some tips.

And finally, put a time frame on it.  If you say I will do it this year before you know it this year has passed by.  If you say I will complete this by November 25th, 2017, your brain has something to work towards.  Figure out what your blocks might be, what might derail you with this goal?  How can you get around that? Give it a good go. You might need to rethink some things along the way, and that is OK too.
